Case Study 1 - Marble - White wine stains

Description of job

On a beautiful polished marble floor in a customers dining room there was an accident involving a white wine spill. The wine being acidic, took the surface of the marble off to the extent that the polish was removed. The spill was neutrised and then repolished with diamond pads. The entire floor was then treated with a polished surface sealant for lating protection.

Case Study 2 - Travertine

Description of job

A family with two large dogs have had this floor for 5 years and have cleaned it with conventional cleaners. This had stripped the surface and removed any protection it had when it was laid. We deep cleaned the entire area and hand scrubbed the grout lines. Once dried, we applied 4 coats of LTP Ironwax Satin and then mechanically buffed it over.

Case Study 4 - Marble

Description of job

A Nero Marquina black marble floor had been cleaned and maintained with conventional bleaches and abrasive floor cleaners. This had removed the shine and made the floor appear lack-lustre. We hand cleaned the floor using an alkaline cleaner and then used a polishing machine with diamond pads to replace the shine. A natural final polish was applied by hand and then mechanically buffed.

Case Study 5 - Porcelain

Description of job

This is a black polished through-body procelain. As it has a mechanically achieved polish, rather than a glazed finish it requires a sealant that is appropriate. When we first saw the floor we realised that everyday dirt and air-born fats in the kitchen were staining and making it 'fog'. We used a specialist organic compound stain remover to remove the 'fog' by hand. We then neutralised and cleaned that off. After which we used a sealant that is then buffed to a mirror-like finish, but non-slip.

Case Study 6 - Victorian Encaustic / Quarry Tiles

Description of job

The chancel in this church had loose tiles and uneven areas that were causing a trip hazard. Also it needed a very good clean, stabilsation and a micro-porous sealant to protect it. After being approved by the architects looking after the conservation of the church, we performed some investigations. After which we re-laid the tiles in the traditional manner, stabilised the floor and then cleaned and sealed it.
