Feature: Get Your Floor Ready for Winter
03 November 2014
As the evenings draw in and we start gearing up for the colder weather it’s a good time to think about some winter housekeeping. This time of year can play havoc with your stone floors but some basic measures can help keep your floors sparkling.
Prevention
- Make sure your doormat is big enough for all those wet shoes and muddy paws.
- It’s obvious but dirt is best left at the door. Don’t walk on your floors with outdoor shoes. Dust off those slippers or get the big socks on!
- If you have a dog, buy an even bigger mat for the back door.
- For those visits to the garden or muddy walks, make sure you keep the dog on the mat while you wipe him down with an old towel.
Cleaning
- Make sure there are enough microfibre cloths around for those mulled wine mishaps during the Christmas festivities.
- Get a new mop. If the old one is looking dirty it means it is dirty. You won’t get a clean floor from washing it with dirt.
- Invest in a separate flat headed mop to brush up grit and wet feet marks. Little and often will keep your floor cleaner.
- Make certain you have enough stone floor cleaning products. But beware – many conventional floor cleaning products can destroy sealant and damage the surface of the stone over time. Floor Restorer offers professional quality stone floor cleaning products.
- Your floor will be less susceptible to in-ground dirt and stains if it has a good sealant.
- If your floor is starting to look dirty and patchy in the high footfall areas, the sealant might be breaking down.
- If you feel your floor could do with an extra clean and seal in preparation for winter, contact us.
